I’ve a 40GB pc and im buying a new 500GB Computer, MY 40GB pc was struggling to cope as i had a lot of pics and albums and movies, and trying to watch videos on youtube was very frustrating as it took forever to download any videos, will my new pc be much faster due to the increased memory capacity?

Answer:
Yes memory does increase speed but not the by expanding your harddrives memory. The memory your looking for is called Ram memory. If you go to crucial.com and look under ram memory there’s a program that you can download which will tell you what type of ram to purchase. If you’re not knowledge with computer i would just bring your pc into somewhere like pc world. Hope this helps

Answer:
The memory you're talking about is hard drive storage. While hard drives can certainly have effect on the speed of various activities on your Personal computer, they’re not a primary factor in the overall speed of your personal. However, since it looks like you're getting a new computer, it will most likely have a faster processor and more RAM, so it will be a faster personal. As far as things like YouTube and the like go, you're also limited by the speed of your world wide web service. If you're on dialup, do not anticipate videos to load any faster.

Answer:
Hi,

What you have done is made the common mistake of confusing “memory” with “storage”, but don’t worry, it’s an simple mistake to make. Having read your question, I understand that you are upgrading to a computer with more storage (i.e. you can store more stuff on a 500GB drive than a 40GB drive). In theory this won’t improve your speed, but if your 40GB personal was full to the max and you start using a computer with a lot more free space then you should see a marginal improvement in speed.

There are two things that’ll really affect your speed: the processor and the RAM, or memory. I won’t bore you by explaining the specifics of each, but if you’ve more RAM (say, you go from 1GB of RAM to 4GB), you will see that your computer will be able to handle processes faster. And, as its name suggests, a better processor will process things faster as well, and I’d suggest Dual Core, which all machines come with these days anyway.

I hope that helps.

Answer:
no, this will be decided by a a variety of other factors, without knowing the rough specifications of your old and new PC's it would be impossible to advise if it will be any faster. Increased storage capacity may increase performance in some areas if your old drive was filling up, but the overall speed of the system isn’t determined in any way by the capacity of the hard drive.

Answer:
It could, but be careful.

If your drive is too full, your harddrive can become fragged and it can slow you down if you don't have enough RAM, so yes, a new drive might help. The 500GB drive might fix your problem, but you also need to make sure that you're going to get a higher amount of RAM too, or else you might run into the same trouble later.

With your new setup (if you decide to go for it), be sure to run the Windows defragmentation client, or another 3rd party defrag client once in a while. (On XP, right click on the harddrive-icon, and there should be a button under the Tools -tab that states Defragmentation.)

What you need to do is look at the RPMs for the drives and compare them. Larger drives can sometimes be SLOWER, because there's more information to search through.

The faster the RPMs, the faster the drive will work, if the internal connections in your motherboard can keep up.

Happy shopping.

Answer:
Depends on how much RAM there is. You can have more RAM added to your old one and it would speed it up. Also, honestly, Vista will slow your system down. I just had mine wiped clean and had XP put back on, also had a GIG of RAM put in, and BOY, did it speed it up!!! I only have 1.50 GIGS, but it is really, really fast now. But I don't have all the stuff you’ve. I don't put movies on mine. I would think that would take up a lot of room.

Answer:
Hi Dude,

No you’re wrong…40 GB is hard disk capacity not system speed, This is space capacity to store files in your system, If i am not wrong you might be having either p3 or p-4 system, just try to upgrade your system ram to maximum ( at least 1 GB ) and also allocate some more space for virtual memory and delete unwanted files and then empty your recycle bin. Then you’ll feel the difference… and wont be having any problem with your system…

Enjoy..

Answer:
Yes and no.

First, you're not talking about memory. Memory (Aka RAM) Holds data that’s being used by programs, you're talking about storage.

Anyway , some disks read faster than others, newer ones, or SATA drives mostly read faster.

There isn't only one factor that affects the 'speed' of a computer.

Answer:
Yes that’s true because the more stuff that’s on your personal the slower it goes. This is because when the computer runs out of RAM it starts to use the hard disk. But you should still try and keep your system nice and clean even though you’ve a huge 500GB drive to work with otherwise the same thing will eventually happen to your new personal. Something that you should also do is add more RAM that’ll help no matter what.

Answer:
yes because the 40gb was slow as the memory was pretty much full. with more memory you’ll have more room so it wont slow down like that.

just remember its not the only cause. personal can also be slowed down due to viruses, weak internet connections, etc etc.

Answer:
NO, you disc size, to a point, does affect your operating speed. The only time your hard drive size affects speed is when it is within about 15% of being full. The OS needs the space to move stuff around in.

You RAM size will make major differences, again up to a certain size. Most Personal computers cant handle more than 4GB.

Answer:
wut u mean is not memory,it called space (storage/Hard Disc).. yes if its running on 10,000 rpm and no if its jz 5000 rpm.. hving a more storage can make ur system faster (lot space available) but it also can run slower than small storage.. pc memory mean RAM.. yes more ram can boost up ur performance, more faster but depend on wut ur mobo can handle.. one thing is,pc memory (RAM) and storage space (hard disc) is diffrent

Answer:
The size of the hard disk has nothing to do with the speed of the Computer - it's the size of the RAM, and processor that have most effect. Any new Personal computer should be faster than your old one…

Answer:
yes u r pc is worked faster than priv”s……….

Answer:
No

But increasing RAM will speed it up

Answer:
only in ram more ram more speed

Answer:
Its best to get more ram first, all imaging related uses ram not the hard disk

Answer:
yes that what i been told

Answer:
yeah because the more crap you’ve on a computer the slower it goes
