Ok, I had windows xp on one partition and windows vista on another. long story short I’ve 2 partitions still, one with xp and 30gb of “Unallocated Space”. I want to add the unallocated space to my main partition of xp. I tried using acronis disk director but when installing it say it failed to read certain parts of partiton C: and then it freezes. Is there any way of doing it within xp without the use of other software?

Answer:
use partition magic software

Answer:
I had something similar on my laptop where sony had partioned the hard drive into 2, the only way I could make into one was by using the software provided and change the settings into 1 partion, but be aware that the hard drive need to be re-formatted so you will loose all your data. If you havent got any provided software you can install windows from scratch and then you’ll be able to make new partiotions or delete them, hope this helps

Answer:
If you do this using XP, you'll lose the data and systems from both partitions. So first back everything up and make sure you've got what you need to reinstall it all.

The route for the Windows gizmo for altering your partitions is

Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Personal Management

You then need to click on disk management and you'll find all sorts of tools for wrecking your personal.

Answer:
not within xp. you would have to use magicdisk or one of those type programs. check download.com i bet they’ve some free trials that you could use. if you stick with xp only then just make it in to a new volume and go from there

Answer:

EDIT

if it wont merge then just redistribute space, pinch it from d and add it to c….

Answer:
Nope. You can't merge partition on XP without the use of 3rd celebration software.
