hi edd
your pc hardware specs are on a similar level to mine,i have a 3.2ghz pentium 4 hyper threaded and 2gb of ram
however your accilees heel is the onboard radeon xpress 200,allthough this is a capable onboard video controller its not much good for new pc games
some might state you should upgrade and get a dual core cpu and windows vista, however i have just been playing assassins creed and bioshock and these run pretty good on my p.c,assassins creed runs on medium and bioshock on high and i get around 40fps(frames per second)
so my advice is upgrade your graphics to a dedicated video card and add another 1gb memory module, and this should improve your p.c,s performance a lot
as for a decent graphics card, well i presume your motherboard supports the agp interface and a good agp card to consider is the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB AGP from http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component…
this is a excellent card and has some brilliant specs including a 670mhz core clock and 512mb of gddr3 memory running at 1900mhz,this will play your games at high detail and along with its 256bit memory bus this will ensure you get decent frame rates, however if your motherboard supports the pci-express interface then a good card to consider is the Asus ATi Radeon HD 3870 512MB DDR4 PCI-E (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component…
this again is a incredible card with some awesome specifications, these include a 775mhz core clock and 512mb of gddr4 memory running at 2250mhz,and with a 256bit memory bus and support for direct x 10 and open gl 2.0 this will rock your games
as for memory a 1gb module will vary in price,if your motherboard supports the ddr standard of ram then this will cost more, however the newer ddr2 ram is significantly cheaper, check these modules out :
1.AriaNet 1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… is the older type of memory and as you can see its quite costly, but not too much
2.Arianet 2GB PC2-6400 CL5 (2×1GB) (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… you can see 2gb of ddr2 ram is cheaper than just 1gb of ddr ram, however even the 1gb of ddr ram will make a large difference to your p.c,s performance
note : when you add the dedicated graphics card(e.g HD3850) the bios will give you the shared memory that was used to run your radeon xpress 200(hence the 960mb ram instead of the full 1024mb ram),the xpress 200 was using 64mb of your systems memory(1024mb - 64mb = 960mb)
so by adding a graphics card aswell as getting far superior graphics you also dont have to lose any memory to the graphics since the new graphics card will have its own memory( i.e 512mb)
so by the end of this upgrade you’ll have the following specifications :
pentium 4 2.93ghz
2048mb(2gb) ram
HD3850 (example)..the choice is yours !
also by adding a inexpensive soundcard such as the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy SE 7.1 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… will improve your systems performance even more,as onboard audio uses the cpu so by using the audigy that has its own audio processor you can improve you gaming performance aswell as its sound,,everyones happy
i hope this has helped however any problems let me know
good luck edd !
Answer:
Ram: Purchase 2 Gigs… nothing more. Windows won't recognize more than 2. I advocate Dual Chanel (2 x 1GB). You can get these for $50-$100)
Video Card: If you’ve Windows Vista, purchase a “DirectX 10″ Card. If you’ve Windows XP, purchase a “DirectX 9″ Card. Xp doesn't use DX10 yet. Most video cards for DX9 are Under $120.
Yes. Just make sure you’ve enough room in your personal to add the video card. Some Dells, Gateways, HPs, etcc…. have sma;; cases that prevent you from doing that. Worst case scenario, you go to Ideal Purchase and purchase a new personal case.
If you’re going to purchase personal components I would recommend some websites like Newegg.com or www.TigerDirect.com
Answer:
depends on accessebility
If you can do so cheaply then buy a new top of the range pc, it will last you a few years (average pc life)
ALTERNATIVLY look around, people prostitute their personal know how and will likely build you a super computer for a few hundred quid
for example, I found a guy who builds computers and for £230 he built me some kind of hybrid super computer, I don't know exact specifications but It can do near enough anything it has several hard-drives meaning it can handly Mac stuff as well as normal pc, plus it has 4 terrabytes of space and will last me several decades due to easy access to replace broken or out-of-date parts
seriously, look around and pay someone to make you a computer it's far more effective and cheaper in the long run

I worked in a place called Bytecraft and i found out lots of intresting stuff on the subject of upgrading.
If its a Desktop then it is like a vehicle, you can replace stuff and make it run faster and superior. It is suprisingly cheap and you can custom make it to your requirements, even though you need expertice to do it yourself (although u can learn so easily), but you can go to a private shop and they would do it for £30 an hour and if you find a good one they will not rip you off.
You can find what you need for very good prices on ebuyer.co.uk
Get the latest Graphics card and a good RAM for £100.
However you may need a new motherboard to support the new tech.
But if you get a new processor (Best being Core 2 Quad), you get a new mother board with it and you that shoudl take all the new upgrades.
My estimate for a Core 2 Quad is about £200-£300 but it will last you a LONG time and is super fast.
So if you get a new motherboard and new RAM, New Graphics and take all the stuff (including old PC), the tech guy will replace it all and it should take less then an hour so will charge u minimum.
So answering you question it might be worth upgrading if you have the right motherboard, if not the right mom board it would be worth buying the latest.
Answer:
If the processor is a duo 2.93GHZ then its ok, to run new Personal computer games and games coming out i would advise to get a new Computer. Depending on what type of games you want to play and how high the graphics but mostly on your budget.
I would advise for latest games and also games coming out this year to get a PC of around £1300.
Answer:
Upgrade your video card … also i'd advise runnin your ram up to a gig ….. but theres definitely no need to shell out on a new Personal computer …. lol …. plus your processors good enough to run games
Answer:
be sure that your upgrade suits your motherboard or it'll be more the ram u'll need….possibly a video card only
