I know that the ram is PC2100 and that it's made by Micron Tech. but is there anything else i need to be aware of when buying ram? for example the Mhz or voltage etc. As you can probobly tell I know very tiny about pc's but i'm picking it up slowly.
Answer:
You don't even need to know voltage. What you do need to know is what the highest speed RAM the motherboard can handle, either given in Mhz or as you mentioned, PC2100, look in the manual, otherwise if you don't know, stick with the PC2100. The other thing you need to know is what type of memory, depending on how old the computer is, it may need SDRAM, DDR, etc. You should also know what the max amount of RAM it can use, this should also be in the manual for the motherboard. If it is just a few years old, it can't use more than 3GB, but see if you can add at least 1GB.
Answer:
Ideal thing to do when buying RAM is to go buy the 'Buying Guide' from a reputable website. Just enter the model of your PC and it will tell you which RAM to buy.
Crucial.com is the easiest. Good luck. ![]()
Answer:
Well you dont have to buy brand specific ram. first of all check out how much more ram the computer and motherboard can handle via:
http://www.crucial.com/
This will tell you what you can upgrade to and what options are available to you!
Whether you’ve SD Ram or the more current DDR ram!
Answer:
You need to know how much memory the MB will handle, are there any open slots, or do you need to free up slots with larger chips. Also some MB's restrict the size of the chip in the slots
Answer:
any pc2100 should work just fine. look to have 768mb to 1.5gig for windows xp or 1.5gig to 3gigs for windows vista

Answer:
PC2100 is ddr ram most types will work
Answer:
PC2100 is DDR Sdram that operates at 266MHz. Voltage has been set by JEDEC. JEDEC is an organization that was started a long time ago to set standards for computer hardware, such as ram memory. 2.5 volts DC is the standard for DDR Sdram. (Small ram primer: SDRAM symbolizes Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. SDR Sdram has been misnomered by being simply called Sdram. It's
Single Data Rate Sdram. DDR is Double Data Rate Sdram. DDR2 is Double Data Rate 2, and so on. SDR Sdram has 168 contact pins on the bottom. DDR? 184 pins. DDR2? 240 pins. DDR3 has 240 pins, but the locating notch on the bottom is in a different place than DDR2. Keeps people from
trying to put DDR3 in a DDR2 slot. (The contact pins for signal, and voltage are in a different place than DDR2)
With your PC2100 ram memory, DDR is the style. 266 MegaHertz is the speed. 184 contact pins. ANY PC2100 ram will work in your Mom's personal.
The thing you need to be aware of is how much,( Amount ), is the MAXIMUM Total amount for the motherboard. Also how much is the MAXIMUM amount for EACH ram slot.
As answered, you can go to Crucial.com, and use their Crucial System Scanner Tool. (On homepage just click on 'Scan My System' button.) It's free,(Really!), no malware, or soliciting, and you're not obligated to purchase from them.
Tells you:
1.What type, and how much ram you have currently installed.
2.Which slot/s the ram is in, in your computer.
3.What the Total maximum amount is for the computer.
4.What the Maximum amount is for each ram slot.
5.Recommendations of ram you can put in. How much, and how many.
Some examples of PC2100 ram.
