Answer:
What do you mean it turns off, does the personal physically shut off, or when you boot up it doesn't make it to the Windows XP load screen?

If it physically turns off your power supply could be damaged or in need of replacement.

If you hear a loud clicking sound during boot up it means your hard drive is dying, and needs to be taken to a shop to just get the information onto another drive.

If it just doesn't load but the personal is still running, it could mean a few things:

1) Your hard drive is dead, if you get a blue screen.

2) Your CMOS Battery which controls the BIOS is dead and just needs replacement.

I would look on the back of the personal, there should be a set of four lights in a row. These will probably be your Diagnostic lights, and if one or a number of the lights are off during boot up it indicates a certain problem, so take down this information.

Try doing a Dell Diagnostics on your personal. When the DELLĀ® logo appears, press immediately, it will give you a couple of Diagnostic options and just choose a Full Diagnostic.

I would also register for free at the Dell Community Forums for help. At the Dell Community Forums other users like you and me, will answer your questions for free, and you can also look up topics as well. http://dellcommunity.com

Anymore questions contact me, I’ll gladly continue to help you with your situation, include your Dell Model information e.g Dell Dimension 4600.

Have a nice day

Answer:
Did you install something? If so, boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 when Windows starts. Once in Safe Mode, try uninstalling whatever you installed.

Otherwise, it might be a hardware failure like a power supply or motherboard issue. Contact Dell support and make arrangements to send it in for service. If it's still under warranty, it will likely be at no cost. You might have to live without your Dell for a while, but it should come back in working order.

Answer:
This should be a windows problem, not a problem with the computer itself. Insert your windows (xp?) Cd and on startup it should boot from that. When it askes you to install xp, press r. Then type chkdsk /f. This will take a while, when it is done it should restart itself

If you don’t have a xp disk check if you have a option of Recovery Console sometime on startup, and select that. Then type chkdsk /f

hi mate

has the p.c only just started doing this,if so what software or program have you just installed,or was it a update?

once you’ve discovered what it was you installed restart the p.c in safe mode(press f8 at start) and when in safe mode use add/remove programs to remove the offending program or update

then once you’ve done this go to start>programs>accesories>system tools>system restore>and restore your p.c back at least two days(or to before this problem started)

windows will then shut down(after restoring your settings) and then after the restart it should load windows as per normal, once the system restore confirmation appears on the desktop click ok and your desktop will fully appear

the main reasons for these type of issues on boot up are normally driver related, and the main one is “updated video drivers”

although updated video drivers are suppose to improve your graphic card sometimes the driver can actually conflict with another driver or is simply corrupt

give this a go and please let me know if it dosent work,we will try something else

good luck mate !

Answer:
when it starts up hit what ever 'F' button takes you to bios, then just boot up from there… don't change anything just hit exit… that worked once for me.

you should of burn recovery discs when you got the Computer???

but that will wipe everything and return it to 'factory settings' or 'as new'… but it will fix whatever the problem is

Answer:
switch on your personal and bootup press F8 to get to safe mode look for restore and restore to an earlier date when you know the personal worked well. If the problem only occurred after you installed something try uninstalling it and reboot.
