Will My personal powersupply fan no run unless its connected to the motherboard? let me explain, i purchased a power supply and to test it works before i plud all the cables in i plugged it into my wall socet although the fan didnt run, so will the fan not run unless its plugged into a motherboard as im not sure it works, thanks

Answer:
A PSU fan usually runs off the main circuit board inside the PSU itself so it has its own supply. You don't test a PSU by just plugging it into the mains without it being connected inside your pc! It won't work without a load on it and you risk damaging it, the way to test it is to fully connect it inside your pc, and switch on.

Make sure the fan is working inside the PSU before you replace the side panel on your case, if it isn't then switch off immediately or the PSU will overheat, maybe taking your system down with it.

Answer:
That makes no sense to me because the connector that goes to the MoBo is only for the purpose of delivering power to the MoBo and all of your other hardware.

Do this: don't install the power supply, but simply plug it into the MoBo and then into the wall and see if the fan goes on. I don't think it will, but you never know. You can even boot the Personal computer with it not installed and see if that makes a difference.

I sounds like you have a defective Power Supply. If the above doesn't turn on the fan, take it back to where you purchased it and get a replacement.

Hope this helps.

Answer:
I'm pretty sure that the mobo grounds the fan….therefore it would be necessary to have it properly connected for it to work.

However….I don't claim to be an expert…I could be wrong.

Answer:
connect and try again I believe the supply has to be “on load” to necessitate the fan .

Answer:
OFCOURSE

the sensors were built in the mother board so the fan can feel alone..

anyway why dont you want it simply connected???

Answer:
The fan has it's own connector.

Answer:
no your fan won’t run unless its pluged in to the MB. thats the way there built .

Answer:
No.

Yeah, another two points! :-)
