Question about phone connected with computer?
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Desktop Computer |
I had my phone connected last night for the first time and when I needed to disconnect it I was supposed to click something to safely disconnect the pc but I couldnt find what to click so I just waited til I switched the pc off and then disconnected it. What should I have clicked on and what if I had just disconnected it straight away while it was still on What would have gone wrong?
Answer:
Depends on what USB phone you’ve. What do the instructions say?
I got mine to use on Skype and Sipgate.
Mine came with an installation disc and it puts a phone icon in the tray. When the phone is not plugged in the icon has a red cross through it. Plug the phone in and the cross goes and it becomes an ordinary phone icon.
If it's like that then you don't have to switch it off. You just pull the plug out after you have completed with it.
If it came without any supporting software then yes you’ll have to switch it off before you remove it as 10sing says.

How to remove hardware:
To “Safely remove hardware” you need to go to the system tray (fancy work for the bit of the screen (bottom right) where the clock is), here you’ll see a tiny grey box with a green arrow - hover the cursor over it and the poop-up will appear saying “Safely remove hardware”. Click onto this and a dialogue box will show you what you can safely remove. Select your phone from the list (it might be the only item in the list) and click “Stop”; wait a second or two and it will say “Safe to disconnect”.
If you don't:
It is possible for data either on the Computer or on the phone to become corrupted if you simply pull the plug. It's not a common thing but it does happen if, when you pull the plug data is being transferred. By shutting down the PC you “Park” the hard drive so no data was being transferred - you won't have a corrupt data problem.
Hope it helps.

Answer:
this is a like that shows the image that you need to look for
http://kbserver.netgear.com/images/safel…
this is located at the bottom right corner of the screen, if this isnt there when the phone is plugged in first try click the arrow that is pointing left if that isnt there, then your phone is ok to remove when ever you want.
If you remove the phone without safely removing it can wipe it clean and damage it, it doesnt happen all the time, infact very rarely, but your computer is reading from it and them gone and it can cause currupt files etc…
Answer:
On XP you don't need to worry about it. It's a hold over from earlier PC's where you had to click on Safely Remove Hardware. It's still there, usually hidden. The only phone you plug into a Personal computer is USB one, no other.
