thinking about upgrading my daughters computer, will these specs be enough to help her with her college work next year……….

AMD DUAL CORE 4000 PROCESSOR

1 GIG DDR2 667 RAM MEMORY

ASROCK AM2 ALIVE NF6G MOTHERBOARD

256MB ONBOARD GRAPHICS

7.1 SOUNDCARD

Answer:
Yeah that's more than powerful enough for college work. Installing a soundcard is never unnecessary as the quality of onboard sound is never much good. Same applies to a separate Graphics card too, separate devices are always superior than the onboard ones.

In summary then it's fine for her college work, but I think a separate Graphics card would be worth adding too in case

she decides that she wants to play games or watch DVDs as they needn't cost that much extra.

I also concur that 2Gb RAM might be a good idea too, I use this amount with XP Professional and my PC's noticeably

smoother than when I had 1 Gb and again it's not very costly. In fact, DDR667 RAM is now cheaper to purchase than the older type DDR400 which my system uses.

Answer:
PLEASE be careful before you spend all your bucks on this! I tried doing a similar upgrade and it fail because the mobo conflicted with the proprietary original settings and windows failed to begin.Often you’ll need to get a confirmation on the new mobo from the original manufacture…it is a anti piracy safeguard that windows installs to prevent the operating system from being installed on another computer.I heard a tech call it “tatooing”a mobo.My upgrade failed because of this.So please be careful!

Answer:
That is plenty enough for “college work”. I would concur that the sound card is really not necessary. If it is going to be Windows Vista, you might want to look at more RAM though as it is really better with 2 GB, but I run it on 1 and it is just fine.

Ahh-just saw the post above me, yes I agree

Answer:
To all intents and purposes thats a good system for what your daughter requires. However…….I would personally go for a ASUS or Gigabyte Mobo coupled with a slightly less powerful procesor.

The one thing you don't mention is wether or not its Computer or lap top. The specs you've provided suggest Personal computer

Answer:
yes would be enough, however i would look into getting a 2gb memory as it would run smoother but if that is all you can afford then yes it would do the job.

Answer:
More than enough for college work, installing a 7.1 sound card though is unessary though.

Answer:
Might need more memory if running Vista-one gig will make it run pretty slow

Answer:

Answer:
