I have received via email attachment 3 word documents.

They all open fine as usual using MS word however when open 1 of them I get an error message stating that the program has came across an error and needs to close so therefore I can’t view the content or print the document which I need to do.

How can I fix this? Only happens with this one file.

Answer:
If you have access to Word 2007, try using that. It manages errors superior than earlier versions of Word.

Otherwise, get a copy of OpenOffice and try opening it with that; it often manages files that have errors.

Answer:
You can right click the file

select open with

make sure the “always open with” box is NOT ticked

select Notepad if it is in the list

or browse if it isn't

(Hint: it is in the main Windows folder in both XP and Vista)

it may open,

if it does not then the file is possibly too corrupt to open with anything.

If it does (it will be with text only no pictures or graphics etc.) you need to duplicate the text, open a new Word Document, paste in the text, delete the old Word document and save the new one with the same name. Once saved you can close the Word document and re-open it. If all is well you can close Notepad, that way if the file still has a problem you still have a copy of it (unsaved) with Notepad that you hadn’t closed. Save it now, you can use the same file name as it is a different file extension (txt/doc). Open word, from within Word open the Notepad document and use the Save As command (from File) to save a 2nd copy as the file name you want. This should work if all else has failed.

Answer:
Try restarting your computer and trying again.

It would help if you listed the exact error message.
