I’ve a major problem with my Personal computer yesterday, but it's all sorted now.

However, two things alarmed me:

1) The spyware only 'showed' itself, came to life (whatever you want to call it) when i went onto apple.com. Before that everything was fine.

2) I mentioned i had recently downloaded some browsers (for testing web-pages) and that i don't surf the web much on this Personal computer (just study/build websites). The browsers were installed two days ago and Personal computer worked fine for hours. But even if it was the browsers, they came from download.com.

So my question is,

are apple.com and download.com dodgy sites?

Thanks in advance

Answer:
apple.com likes to bundle a lot of stuff together which for the unwary can cause problems.

download.com itself is safe, the majority of the products they list are of good quality and it's a highly respected site with a vast turnover.

download.com are merely 'middle men' from where you can download just about anything, but it is worth remembering that the programs and utilities listed are not owned by them, they are just the download site.

So it could well be that the browsers themselves created a conflict or something that was inadvertently bundled with a download from apple.

I trust download.com and direct many others there for a variety of downloads and have never experienced any problems using them.

Answer:
I have a theory that there is no such thing as a non dodgy download. In the last two weeks i have had problems from 1.Microsoft security updates that infected me with FAKEALARM which is a trojan, I tracked it down to Simantec which is the company that provides Norton security.2.My sister was having problems with viruses so i recommended a free virus check provided by Computer Pit stop. The free check came with an updated version of an old spyware program named BUMBLEBEE. When i posted a comment on their site they eventually got back to me saying that it was probably already on her system she informed me this was rubbish because prior to her download she had done a full scan. I had a second problem with a trojan despite not even going on to the net other than Y/A so i am assuming this came from an automatic download from what i assumed were safe providers which Knocked out my main A/S A/V spyware doctor. I think that the anti spyware companies are deliberately engaged in infecting each other and that the only cure for this is to cut off the hands of any computer geek that writes this iniquitous bullshit
